Updated ABA Truck Categories

From today, 19 January 2026, new ABA truck categories come into force.
Reach D1/D2 will merge into a single D1 category.
New ABA Testing Standard
17 August 2024
On 16 August 2024, The Accrediting Bodies Association for Workplace Transport (ABA) released a new associated knowledge test standard for Counterbalance Lift Truck and Reach Truck operators. The test has changed to be more inclusive and better assess operator knowledge.
Using the new test standard is currently optional. It will become mandatory from 1 March 2025.
Steel City FLT Training will immediately begin using the new testing standard as it is a fairer way of assessing candidates of all abilities.
Train the trainer courses
10 August 2024
Steel City FLT Training now offers instructional techniques courses (Train the trainer).
This is beneficial for companies requiring in-house instructors who do not wish to have the additional costs of accreditation.
On completion of the five day course, your delegates will have covered:
- Legal requirements
- Qualities and role of the instructor
- Effective communication skills
- Effective questioning skills
- Practical lesson planning
- Classroom lesson planning
- Recommendations for training
- Logical sequence for training sessions
These courses are carried out on your premises with a minimum of two delegates/maximum of three and cost £695 per delegate fully inclusive of all course materials and certification.
